Heading home or into the city for the weekend? The bus from philadelphia to new york for college students comes down to a short list of practical details: where the bus leaves, when to be there, which departure to pick, and what happens if your plans change.
This guide covers the Philadelphia end of the route, the trip back toward New York, and the planning habits that keep a student trip simple. Everything here comes from what Philly Bus publishes, and anything the company has not published is marked as such.
One note first. We do not list any student discount or student ID requirement, because none is published to us. Fares are shown on the booking page, so check there for your date.
Bus from philadelphia to new york for college students: Where and When It Leaves
The pickup point in Philadelphia is 1001 Filbert St, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Copy the address into your maps app exactly as written. For a bus from philadelphia to new york for college students, that is the first thing to settle, because a wrong address means waiting at the wrong curb.
Philly Bus runs the route more than 70 times a week, with departures at 9AM, 12PM, 3PM, 5PM and 7PM. The 7PM run only operates on some days, so do not build a plan around it until the booking page shows it for your date.
If you are wondering whether that last run is reliable, our guide on whether the 7PM bus runs every day explains how to check. For a bus from philadelphia to new york for college students on a Sunday night, that check matters more than anything else.
The company’s own estimate for the trip is about 2 hours. That is an estimate rather than a guaranteed time, so leave some slack if you have a shift, a class or a train to catch after you arrive.
Planning Around Classes, Finals and Move-Out Days
Student trips often cluster around Friday afternoons, Sunday evenings, the end of a term and the weeks around breaks, which means more people are choosing from the same five departures.
Seats are not assigned. The ticket terms describe the service as first come, first served, and no saving of seats is permitted. If you want a comfortable spot, the only lever you have is arriving early.
That is why the ticket terms ask you to arrive 20 minutes before departure. Our guide on how early to arrive for the bus goes through what those 20 minutes are for.
For a bus from philadelphia to new york for college students heading out right after a final exam, pick a departure with real margin. Walking out of a building at 2:50 PM and hoping to make a 3PM bus is the kind of plan that fails.
A good habit is to choose the departure you want, then book the one before it if your schedule allows. An early bus you can make is better than a later bus you might miss.
What If You Miss It? Rescheduling on a Bus from philadelphia to new york for college students
Students miss buses. A lab runs over, a ride share is late, a roommate is slow. The ticket terms address this directly: tickets are unrestricted, and if you miss your bus you can reschedule your trip for any time within one year of the ticket purchase date.
There are two limits to keep straight. First, this is a reschedule, not a refund. The ticket is not refundable. Second, refunds only come into play when the company cancels a trip, in which case affected passengers are refunded the original purchase price.
Refunds after a company cancellation can take up to 14 business days to arrive. For the full picture, read our guide on what happens if you miss your bus between New York and Philadelphia.
For anyone planning a bus from philadelphia to new york for college students over a holiday, a one-year reschedule window is useful when your departure date is still uncertain. Just remember it changes the date of the trip, not the fact that you paid.
What to Bring and What to Leave Home
You can bring food and non-alcoholic drinks on board, though the company asks you to be considerate of the people around you, since some are sensitive to smells or have food allergies. Alcohol is never allowed.
Smoking and vaping are prohibited on the bus and within 50 feet of the vehicle. Pets are not allowed in the cabin, although service animals are always allowed. If you need wheelchair or other special assistance, call at least 48 hours ahead.
We have not found a published baggage limit, so we are not going to invent one. If you are moving a dorm room rather than carrying a backpack, contact customer service before travel day.
Customer service is reachable at +1(800)879-8775 or [email protected]. Lost items can be reported to [email protected], and found items are kept for up to 14 days.
Bad Weather and Late Departures
The company reserves the right to cancel buses because of weather, traffic or other conditions. It does not publish a specific threshold, so we cannot tell you at what point a winter storm will stop a trip.
Check the booking page and the company’s updates before you leave for the stop. If a trip is cancelled by the company, affected passengers are refunded their initial purchase price through the original payment method.
That is also why a bus from philadelphia to new york for college students should not be planned down to the last minute. A buffer day around an exam or a flight is worth more than any saving on the ticket.
